Trees, ink, and the winter ball.

Hello everyone!
It’s getting closer to Christmas! It’s my favourite time of year by far, so I’m pretty excited about it. Especially for Christmas dinner…
Since it’s now December, my Christmas tree went up at the weekend in my bedroom 😀
I went and bought one as soon as I got paid this month because I couldn’t wait to feel all Christmassy and excited, and everyone in my house doesn’t seem to be getting into the Christmas spirit very much as of yet, so god knows when our big tree is going up. I hope it’s soon though because I LOVE putting the big tree up when we have the Christmas music playing really loudly while we do it and we watch the grinch afterwards 🙂
My little baby tree will do for now though! I love how it looks all tacky and cute like our big one does; just like our big tree. All of the decorations plus the tree cost me less than £10 too which was good considering that I still haven’t finished my Christmas shopping by any means (oops). I did make a huge order yesterday though for my boyfriend’s presents so that’s another big chunk done. And my Christmas cards are already written and some are sent, so I’m not totally unorganised!

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is tattoos. I’ve been wanting one for a very long time now and since I’m legally allowed to get one now I thought it might be good to start planning. A few years ago I read a book by Stephen Chbosky called the Perks of Being a Wallflower, and it was better than anything I’ve ever encountered. I’ve read it a number of times since and I still adore it; I think it will always mean something special to me. If you haven’t read it then I strongly recommend you do! A while ago my best friends and I all went to see the film when it was released at the cinema, and it was amazing because some of us went dressed in suits and ties like writers (you’ll get the relevance of this if you’ve read it!) and the cinema was totally empty because we went at a weird time, and we ran around the cinema and in front of the screen and messed about in there before the film started for a while and it was so so fun. I cried buckets at the film and it was amazing, it made me so happy. And we went to Pizza Hut afterwards which, of course, was fantastic. ;D

Back on topic, I thought that it would be nice to have something symbolic as my first tattoo, and also something linked to my interests, so I’ve chosen something from this book. In the book, the main character often talks about feeling “infinite”, and from the way this feeling is described I know what it means. It doesn’t happen too often, but when it does it’s amazing. I know it sounds cheesy and daft, but for me it’s the way I feel when I’m with my friends. Everyone’s going to be going away to university soon and we won’t see each other very much anymore, so before it happens I want to have something to keep forever that will make me remember spending time with them and how happy they all make me, so that when I miss them I can remember when we were all together and feel happy. Thus, I’ve decided for my tattoo to get the infinity symbol. I like the idea of having it plain black, kind of calligraphyish/italic(?), and fairly small, around 5-8cm across; I just think it would look good that way. The trouble is, I’m just stuck on where to have it. I like how it would look on the bottom of my back but I’m kind of hesitant about that because I know people will think it’s a ‘tramp stamp’ or whatever, which I don’t understand, but nonetheless I’m unsure. I don’t want it anywhere like my wrists/arms that will stop me from getting certain jobs, and I don’t like the idea of thighs and things too much, purely because it’s not the best looking place on my body so I don’t want to draw attention to it. Does anyone have any ideas of where I could put it? I’d really love suggestions or help! 🙂
This is similar to how I’d want it to look.

Also recently, I went to a winter ball! Someone I know at school is going to an ledc (Mexico I think?) and raising money for the trip where she’s going to help rebuild houses for the people, so the ball was to raise money for that. They raised over £500!
I was going to wear my prom dress for it at first but I thought that it would be too over-the-top, and I’m glad I decided not to. I had to wear one of my mum’s dresses because I had nothing else, but it fitted me fine. In the end I wore a plain black dress with a black stole and lots of sparkly jewellery. The ball was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot! One of my friends performed at the event as well and she was amazing! I had no idea she could sing so I was really surprised.

A productive evening!

Tonight I have been baking butterfly cakes, and I think they have turned out pretty well! My mum was making a banana loaf when I got home from school and it put me in the mood for baking, so I did. It might have had something to do with me having two French essays to write which I’m putting off but nonetheless it was fun, and I haven’t had butterfly cakes for aaages.
If anyone would like the recipe that I used, it’s my grandma’s fairy cake recipe that I use for most cakes, and it’s pretty fool-proof for people who often cock things up like me!
The recipe is:
4oz caster sugar
4oz butter
4oz self-raising flour
2 eggs
If I’m making chocolate cakes, I substitute 1oz of the flour for cocoa powder. For the buttercream I used 1.5oz butter and 3oz icing sugar. Sorry this is in imperial, but I’m not sure what the metric is! I hope that this is of use if anyone is in need of a simple, easy-to-remember fairy cake recipe though!
I think I might start baking more, I do enjoy it. I’d like to decorate cakes nicely and things too; one of my art teachers at college showed us some work she did at a cake decorating class a little while ago and it looked like it would have been really fun!
It’s something to think about anyway.
I want to bake something else again soon. Maybe something involving chocolate, because I love chocolate cake, and let’s face it, who can resist chocolate?

What are your favourite kinds of cakes?

Twitter

So I’ve just joined Twitter, which I have no idea how to navigate, and it all seems very chaotic to me. Nonetheless, I’ve linked it up to my blog anyway, which should be useful once I get this thing up and running and start using it properly. I guess this is a tester post to see if the link works, haha.
Ciao,

Hello!

My name is Lauren and this is my new blog. I will be posting a variety of things, I don’t really think there will be much of a theme, unless you count my general interests as themes anyway. I make quite a lot of things in my spare time like art and dresses and different crafty projects so I will be posting them when I do them, and perhaps a few tutorials. I’ll also be posting about things that I do, days out, places I go to, that sort of thing, as well as general ramblings on goodness knows what. As well as my own content, I may also share articles, music, videos, and images that I think are of interest. So that’s it really; feel free to follow me if this interests you, and leave comments if you wish! Also incase any potential followers are wondering, there’s no real end result I want from blogging here or any reason for it; I’ve just always fancied it, so I thought why not give it a go?
